Why does the pilot light on my hot water heater keep going out?

I have a natural gas water heater (Rheem model 21V75). I have replaced the thermocouple. I have replaced the pilot assembly. Yet, the pilot light continues to be extinguished when the burner cuts off. This same thing happened last winter. However the problem was eventually solved after I replaced the thermocouple several times and eventually the pilot assembly. This time, however, the problem has persisted. What should I do now?

    A customer of mine had a similar problem on an old water heater a few years ago. I watched the flame one day and saw when the thermostat would reach the setpoint and shut the gas valve off, the last of the gas would burn off with a soft “whuf” and blow out the pilot.

    These are the steps I took to solve the problem.

    1. Make sure that the exhaust vent is free flowing and not blocked at all.

    2. Make sure that the flue baffle is operating properly.

    3. Make sure that the jacket door and inner door are properly installed.

    I found some info on the rheem website that you might be intrested in although I couldnt find your exact model I found one for a 21dv50-38 which is probably close to yours.

    maybe the thermostat is shot
