cut elec or gas off, turn cold water feed off, hook up hose to bottom spiot, pop open t&p valve on side open bottom valve.this way you can still use cold water for some things, you will get a certain amount of back flow to the w/h.

Frieda

Hey Abay,
First turn off any electricity or gas. Connect a garden hose to the drain at the bottom of the tank. Allow hose to drain in yard if possible. *** Close valve on incoming cold water pipe and then open drain connected to hose. *** Then open the incoming water valve to force the sediment out of the drain in the water heater for just a few seconds. This will also help open the hose.
Open hot side faucet to allow heater to drain. Let the plumber remove the hose when he arrives.

Lucila

If you drain off too much water you will cause an "Air Lock" when the tank is refilled. And because its your fault it will cost you more. Leave it all alone. Let the Man do his job.
