Water Heater Temp Setting

Can I put the pressure relief valve on my hot water heater?
Water is pouring temperature and pressure reducers. The heater was set to "vacation" mode for months. I have returned to a normal temperature setting and five minutes later the water flowed through the pipe valve. I turned off the water to the water heater to control water flow. Can I put the faucet or should I replace it? Can I do it myself?
The overpressure valve can be opened manually, but can not be reset. The spring inside is ready to open and backup needs to close when the pressure in the reservoir has been reduced. That being said and not not knowing how old your water heater, I think you should replace your exercise relief valve. It is not too expensive and can be obtained from places like Home Depot, Lowes, etc. When replacing, make sure to cut the heating source, water source and drain the tank slightly downgrade to ease location of the valve. You can let cool slightly tank to avoid getting burned. Also, remember not get the dough "pipe" to give a good seal between the tank and the relief valve. Good luck!
