How much does installing an expansion tank for water heater cost?
Jennifer B asked:
We are replacing our old 50 gallon water heater. We were told that because of the new codes we will have to have an expansion tank installed at this time. We were quoted $300 for that. Does that seem reasonable or are we being overcharged? They also said something about installing “drip 90 on top line”. Any idea how much something like that should cost?
The $300 is ONLY for the thermal expansion tank. The water lines look like they are made of copper.

Check with your county or city water department and see if codes have really changed. Ask them about the drip 90. Seems strange to me. Beware of repairmen when it comes to your home. Only deal with reliable companies. Good Luck!

is the 300 bucks for the installation for the water heater and expansion tank, or just for the expansion tank? the expansion tank cost around 60 bucks. it depends on what kind of material your water lines are made of.
