mine takes about 3 hrs……temp control is on the front near the pilot cover, u can set it to max ( 135 deg) o low ( 95 deg)

SINCE I WORK WITH HEATERS EVERY DAY ON THE GENERAL IT TAKES ABOUT 1 HOUR TO FULLY REHEAT THE WATER ONCE YOU ARE OUT.

THERE SHOULD BE SETTINGS ON THE HEATER FOR YOU TO CHOOSE MOST HEATERS WITHIN THE PAST 6 YRS COME WITH A RECOMMENDED SETTING RIGHT ON THE HEATER.

a 2 inch square element at 300 degrees isn’t going to heat 40 gallons ANYWHERE near as fast as a 2 FOOT square element at 250 degrees.
