Hot Water Heater Hissing

Water Leak involving water heater?

Before I begin, this is a mobile home, with a 17 gallon water heater. After getting out of the shower yesterday, I noticed an alarming hissing sound, like water running, coming from my hot water heater. It was way to dark in the closet to tell anything about the water heater, so I ran outside to the cut off valve, and cut the water off to the home, after I seen water guzzling from under my floor. When messing around with it, I turned the water back on, got a flash light, and noticed around my water heater tank, water was puddling up. My tank has a place for 2 plastic pvc lines, on top and on bottom. the bottom part had a leak at the base of the tank, with a steady stream rolling out. During this time, I had very very little water pressure coming from the bathtub, where my wife was filling up water jugs. Is the water heater tank my problem, and only problem…or does the loss of water pressure show signs of more trouble?

turn off the supply to your water heater you should have a shut-off valve on the cold side coming into the water heater. Then repair the broken part adapter fitting on the water heater, and if it is pvc like you say it is you should easily buy a coupling and another adapter to replace the broken piece and little pressure coming out of your tub is probably the loss of pressure from your leak (most cartridges work on a posi-temp system which means that you need same amount of pressure both hot/cold lines going through the valve for the valve to work properly.

good luck

;-)
