Gas Water Heaters Canada

If I had a chimney liner installed?
I had an old boiler and a new high efficiency (natural gas) furnace installed. The heater has been moved to be near the fireplace and still is vented out the chimney. What purpose of a liner of the chimney and I should have one if I did not? I live in Southern Ont., Canada in a house about 40 years (bungalow with the heater in the basement). Yes, so the oven is evacuated. thx and no furnace or cracks.
A chimney liner is used when there are cracks in the chimney flue so allow ventilation in your home. Unless you have a fireplace, you probably do not need. The geyser should be fine. I guess your new high efficiency gas furnace is vented to the outside with a plastic pipe.
