Electric Water Heater Safety Valve

water heater thermostat?
Last night my Bradford white 40 gal electric water heater started putting out extremely hot water,(no one has messed with the dials), it is approx 8 years old, well, after the extremely hot water I awoke this morning to no hot water, went down and pushed the breaker switch built in to the unit (I think its the hot water safety switch) it did the same thing, I replaced the 2 thermostats on it today and it seems to be working fine, however, I still have a bit of water leaking out of the overflow or pressure valve. why would this be? ( I have water temp set at about 120 on both thermostats and the water feels just right coming out at the faucett)
i agree with joea
the overflow pressure valve’s job is to release pressure in the tank if the water becomes too hot, mostly due to ill-working tstats. it’s also normal for the pressure valve to fail if this happens. if the water temp is back to normal after changing the tstats, but the pressure valve (also called safety valve or release valve) is leaking, just change the valve out for a new one. normally, they un-screw just like a normal plumbing fitting, and are easy to find. write down the info about your water heater and take it to a plumbing/hardware store and they can get you the new part.
